Judge and jury

In my work life, I’ve often been asked to judge competitions, all in the realm of illustration and design, from the AOI to D&AD. It was a new experience, however, to be asked to judge in the capacity as artist.

Earlier this year I was approached by East Grinstead Meridian Rotary to co-judge their plate decorating competition that they were running in conjunction with Doodledish in Lingfield.

325 children from four local primary schools entered some fabulous designs, that it was hard to choose a winner from each school. My fellow judges, Town Mayor Julie Mockford, Lisa Carey from Doodledish, Meridian President Ginnie Waddingham and myself were all blown away by the entries. There were so many vibrant designs, answering the ‘Spring into Life’ competition brief.

I’m really looking forward to seeing the winners create their designs on real plates at Doodledish! See below the four winning entries – one from each of the schools.

We’re now looking forward to meeting the winners, and watching them paint their winning entries onto real plates – which will then be on display in the St Swithuns Festival of the Arts, in Association with East Grinstead Meridian Rotary, from 30 June – 3 July 2018.
