I had a nice trip along to the Mall Galleries this lunchtime to see the Artists And Illustrators Magazine Annual Exhibition. The over riding impression was of very fine detail – there were many paintings with incredibly close attention to detail, some photographic in appearance. Some of the portraits, in particular stood out as being very strong – very well executed.
The absolute stand out painting for me was by Brian Denington, called ‘Dancer Resting’ – a vast painting, nearly a metre wide. It’s just stunning in person, the blues really singing off the dark greys of the background, not to mention the vibrancy of the orange scarf around the dancer’s neck.
If you get up to London next week, I’d urge you to see this most beautiful painting in person.
