At the moment I’m working on a piece for ‘Congregation‘, an installation of paintings for St Paul’s Church, Brighton, which forms part of the Brighton Artist’s Open House Festival. All paintings have to be on the same size canvas, 30 x 40 inch, all life sized portraits of ‘mock’ parishioners. The paintings are then all displayed as if sitting in the pews. This years theme is lightness or darkness, the artists having to work with one of those ideas in their portrait. I’m working with lightness in a very basic biblical sense, painting a friend in the attitude of prayer. There will be a statement to accompany the finished painting, which is asked of all artists. Anyway, here’s the work in progress, though it’s not there yet.
