I take my inspiration from the life around me, which makes keeps my subject matter varied. I am a mother, and am often inspired by family life in my work; commuting from Sussex to London has brought many rain paintings into my portfolio; and living close to the countryside and given me such joy that I have been driven to capture it in paint.
One of my greatest joys in life has come from painting people, whether in a portrait or a more scenic piece. I like to challenge myself to achieve an accurate likeness whilst keeping my brush marks lively, colourful and interesting. It’s the unexpected hints, marks and colours that can bring a painting alive.
Originally studying Illustration, since graduation, I’ve been daily learning and growing my fine art practice.
In 2018 I was selected as one of 21 finalists in the Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter Prize and also had a piece exhbited in the Society of Women Artists 157th Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London.
I’m a member of and exhibit with two East Grinstead based art groups: Example; and the London Road Group.
My other life
I originally trained and worked freelance as an illustrator, and have developed a career as a book designer and art director, part-time. I have had essays published in books on Illustration, have juried on national and international illustration competitions, have spoken internationally about illustration and have won awards for my art direction.
